Item Description

Nine admissions, to be used in any combination, for the three great plays of Summer Stock 2013:

Beauty and the Beast

By Timothy Mason

Directed by Jonathan Dunski

July 12-20 at Jim Morley Theater, St. Pius X High School

In this gorgeous, gothic adaptation of the French fairy tale, Beauty and her Beast exist in a shadowy world of magic and poetry. Beauty must leave behind her aging father, audacious brothers, and self-absorbed sisters, and enter a dark castle filled with grotesque servants and their beastly master. Ultimately, she looks beyond the monster’s ugliness and understands the transforming power of love.

Wiley and the Hairy Man

By Suzan Zeder

Directed by Ryan Morris

July 26-August 3 at N4th Theater

Set deep within the mysterious Tombigbee Swamp, this spine-tingling tale centers around a young boy Wiley, his conjure-woman mother, his faithful dog, and the Hairy Man who haunts him. Through rhythm and rhyme, a chorus creates the mystery of the swamp. In an exciting, at times silly, duel of wits, Wiley learns to rely upon his own resources and conquers two villains: the Hairy Man and his own fear.

Shrek the Musical

Music by Jeanine Tesori, Book and Lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, Based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig

Directed by Jessica Barkl

Vocal Director: Ethan Smith

Choreographer: Jessie Bolnick

August 9-17 at Hiland Theater

Based on the Oscar® winning DreamWorks film, this hilarious story of everyone's favorite ogre is a dazzling new musical for the stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre (rather than a handsome prince) shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won't shut up, a bad guy with a short temper (or is it a short guy with a bad temper?), and more than a dozen other fairy-tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there is one — and his name is Shrek. Irreverent fun for everyone!
