Item Description
This gorgeous piece of collage art incorporates handmade Italian marbled paper and recycled materials (the shimmering red paper, for instance, is from the gift bag Morse's wedding ring came in; the gold is from a Marks & Spencer pudding box). It's mounted on artist's board and framed (8.5 x 11") in South African black wood. The piece is inspired by the illuminated-manuscript-like illustrations in The Oldest Bedtime Story Ever, which Booklist (in a starred review) called "wonderfully original." Publishers Weekly called the book a "delightful retelling of the biblical story... Morse's scholarship and appreciation for the Bible is obvious, and he does a masterful job of making readers part of the story." Our photo doesn't do the vividness of this piece justice. Morse studied religion and art history at Vassar College, then completed a masters in biblical interpretation at Oxford University, a masters in modern art at the Courtauld Institute in London and a PhD from Glasgow University for a dissertation on the Hebrew Bible's aesthetic diversity. His scholarly work has been published in multiple collections and journals; The Oldest Bedtime Story Ever is Morse's first children's book, which took over 8 years to make.
