Item Description

This gorgeous piece of collage art incorporates handmade Italian marbled paper and recycled materials. It's mounted on artist's board and framed (8.5 x 11") in South African black wood. The photo doesn't do justice to its vividness! The leaves are sparkly silver and the Italian paper is lushly colored. The piece is a take on Morse's illuminated-manuscript-like illustrations in The Oldest Bedtime Story Ever, which Booklist (in a starred review) called "wonderfully original"; Publishers Weekly called the book a "delightful retelling of the biblical story... Morse's scholarship and appreciation for the Bible is obvious, and he does a masterful job of making readers part of the story." Morse studied religion and art history at Vassar College, then completed a masters in biblical interpretation at Oxford University, a masters in modern art at the Courtauld Institute in London and a PhD from Glasgow University for a dissertation on the Hebrew Bible's aesthetic diversity. Smart boy. His scholarly work has been published in multiple collections and journals; The Oldest Bedtime Story Ever is Morse's first children's book. It took him over 8 years to make.
