It’s all in the neighborhood! This is a great outing for grandparents and grandkids or anyone who’s a kid at heart. Begin at the Wildlife Wizardry Studio on Oak Road in Egg Harbor. Spend an hour with world-renowned taxidermist and Door County wildlife expert Mike Orthober. Mike will show you the tricks of the trade and answer questions you may have. (He’s got many stories and has shared them with Elderhostel groups in the past. His work may be viewed at the Door County History Museum in Sturgeon Bay.) From the studio, you can wander down the way a bit hike the Land Trust’s Oak Road Nature Preserve, a 190-acre preserved wetland and habitat restoration site. Visit in spring and you’re sure to see loads of wildlife; late summer you’ll be wowed by the blooming prairie. Finish your day with delicious ice cream at Schopf’s Dairy View Country Store.
