Item Description

These prayer beads are made using ancient roman glass beads for the cruciforms. "Roman" period glass fragment beads come from the Holy Land and date as far back as 100 BC till approximately 400 AD. Originally excavated as pieces of broken vessels, goblets, and platters used during the days of the Roman Empire, this glass has been drilled and cut into beads. Due to the rudimentary tools and techniques used in cutting the beads, they have a great rustic look and feel. They have a very old patina resulting from being buried in the earth for centuries. Each piece of Roman glass jewelry is unique and is a artifact of ancient history!

These prayer beads are very special and made with rustic cobalt blue roman glass beads for the cruciforms. The invitatory bead is a emerald green oblong glass bead. The weeks are a combination of clear multi-faceted crystals, green glass beads and handmade Bethlehem olivewood from the Holy Land. The spacer beads are blue and green. The cross is sterling silver (stamped on the stem) and measures 1 1/2 inches in length. It was bought from an estate sale and we are not certain of the stones but they are aqua in color with some swirl design (we believe it is turquoise) and blend beautifully with the roman glass and other beads. The overall design measures 11 inches in length including the cross.

The prayer beads come with a card that describes the prayer beads symbolism and gives suggestion on how to use them. The card emphasizes there is no incorrect way to pray or meditate. An organza draw-string bag is also included for storage.
