Item Description

Lunch with AIR JAWS' Chris & Monique Fallows  -  Wildlife photographers — in Simonstown, South Africa

If you’ve seen Air Jaws on Discovery Channel, Planet Earth, BBC, Jaws 25-year Anniversary on National Geographic, or 60 Minutes, then you’ve seen Chris and Monique Fallows and the giant white sharks as they hurtle above the surface in False Bay, South Africa.

Chris and Monique are naturalists who photograph the massive sharks soaring through the air, as they soar from the depths to catch seals near the surface. The phenomenon is best seen near Seal Island, a crowded Cape fur seal colony near Cape Town, South Africa. When seals cross deep water to approach or leave their island sanctuary, the sharks, swimming at depth, rocket toward the animals at the surface. The momentum of the ascent often results in both predator and prey exploding out of the ocean like a cork from a champagne bottle.

For the past 16 years, Chris and Monique have observed and cataloged thousands of predatory events, making their database the largest of its kind in the world. Chris authored the book Great White and The Majesty of Sharks and has worked with National Geographic, Discovery Channel and assisted in production of the Emmy-nominated Air Jaws series of documentaries, as well as the shark segment on Blue Planet.

In addition to their ground-breaking work observing and cage diving with white sharks, Chris and Monique also lead expeditions to study mako and blue sharks in South African waters.

Item Special Note

Being auctioned is dinner or lunch with two of the world’s foremost shark experts or celebrities. It is a unique opportunity to “talk shark” face-to-face, one-on-one, with real experts on sharks.

How it works:

1. Bid on a celebrity, shark scientist or conservationist that lives or works in your area, unless you are willing to drive or fly to meet them in their area.

2. The winning bidder pays for the lunch or dinner and may bring as many guests as he or she wishes.

3. We will introduce the winning bidder to the celebrity, scientist or conservationist. The two of you then set a mutually agreeable  date, time and place to meet within one year of the close of the auction.

All winning bids are charitable contributions deductible from US Federal 2013 income taxes.  Funds raised by the auction will be used to support shark research and conservation programs.
