Item Description

Lunch or Dinner with Mark Marks — Shark Biologist — in Newport, Oregon

Mark Marks is a seasoned research biologist who is best known for his pioneering doctoral studies of the behavioral ecology and sociobiology of the white shark off South Africa.

The scientists’ focus on applying experimental biology techniques in the field outside the confines of a shark cage have provided him a unique perspective on the little known world of white shark behavior and feeding ecology.

Mark’s extensive scientific background with elasmobranches spans more than 25 years, taking him to remote locations off four continents, ten countries and including research with dozens of shark species.

For this extreme biologist the possibility of uncovering and elucidating new, yet described, shark behavior is the driving force behind exploration and expedition adventures with a distinct academic twist.

Mark has most recently returned from his fourth research trip to Guadalupe Island, off Baja Mexico, where he participated with National Geographic in filming white shark predation of Northern Elephant Seals.

Item Special Note

Being auctioned is dinner or lunch with one the world’s foremost shark experts or celebrities. It is a unique opportunity to “talk shark” face-to-face, one-on-one, with a real authority on sharks.

How it works:

1. Bid on a celebrity, shark scientist or conservationist that lives or works in your area, unless you are willing to drive or fly to meet them in their area.

2. The winning bidder pays for the lunch or dinner and may bring as many guests as he or she wishes.

3. We will introduce the winning bidder to the celebrity, scientist or conservationist. The two of you then set a mutually agreeable  date, time and place to meet within one year of the close of the auction.

All winning bids are charitable contributions deductible from US Federal 2013 income taxes.  Funds raised by the auction will be used to support shark research and conservation programs.
