Item Description
A German innovation, salt vapor glazing is the result of introduing salt into the kilns firing chamber at or near peak temperature. The salt volatizes, and coats the pieces with a glass-like skin. depending on placement in the kiln, with respect to neighboring pieces, and proximity to the salt ports, the final surfaces run from glass-smooth, to an orange-peel texture, and a wide variety of colors, mostly earth tones to greys. This piece was fired in a salt kiln in Persia, IA.
