Item Description

Lunch or Dinner with Michael Kazma, founder of Shark Chums, in San Diego, California

Shark Chums is dedicated to shark diving and shark conservation. The organization provides experienced shark divers, photographers and the public with opportunities to dive with local species of sharks including blue sharks, mako sharks. By diving with these species, the public’s misconceptions of these magnificent pelagic sharks are changed.

Michael began diving when he was 13 years old and quickly encountered his first shark, the rarely seen small Smalltooth sandtiger shark, Odontaspis ferox.

Quickly advancing through scuba courses, he was certified as a technical scuba instructor when he was 18. After moving from the UK, he relocated to Lebanon, and then to Hawaii, finally settling in San Diego.

At first he ran his own scuba business but soon realized that he wanted to focus on shark diving and their conservation  Although he works primarily with blue and mako sharks and hasdeveloped an amazing relationship with them, he finds the time to travel and work with other species such as white sharks, sevengill sharks, thresher sharks,  leopard sharks, and horn sharks..

Michael is never more at home than when he is feeding and interacting with sharks. He loves to share his happiness with all around him but of course the conversations always involved many of his shark tales. Listening to him speak about sharks and his passion for them, his listeners fall in love with sharks and the ocean too

Item Special Note

Being auctioned is dinner or lunch with one the world’s foremost shark experts or celebrities. It is a unique opportunity to “talk shark” face-to-face, one-on-one, with a real authority on sharks.

How it works:

1. Bid on a celebrity, shark scientist or conservationist that lives or works in your area, unless you are willing to drive or fly to meet them in their area.

2. The winning bidder pays for the lunch or dinner and may bring as many guests as he or she wishes.

3. We will introduce the winning bidder to the celebrity, scientist or conservationist. The two of you then set a mutually agreeable  date, time and place to meet within one year of the close of the auction.

All winning bids are charitable contributions deductible from US Federal 2013 income taxes.  Funds raised by the auction will be used to support shark research and conservation programs.
