Item Description

This special auction package is geared for the home gardener who would like to create or transform their outdoor space into a native garden, vegetable patch or special oasis. As development replaces natural habitats, planting native gardens can provide a bridge to nearby remaining wildlands and provide a buffer for wildlife. By growing native you support the local ecology by using less water, little to no fertilizer, little to no pesticides, less pruning and less of your time.

To get you started, we have recruited a special "Green Team" of experts who will offer a variety of experience to help the winning bidder with their Grow Native needs!

Meet our Green Team Master Gardener of Marin, Leslie Pederson of Point Reyes: After retiring from teaching at San Francisco State University, Leslie became a Master Gardener of Marin where she could turn her lifetime of gardening experience into a directed and supported avenue of community service. Need help with a native plant garden design, planning a year-around edible garden, pest management or weed control?  Leslie can tailor her services to fit your special garden needs. With the resources and backing of the UC Cooperative Extension, Leslie will spend 4 hours with you to assist you with your garden projects or just pitch in and help you plant or weed.

Meet our Green Team Owners Teddy Stray and Rhonda Moore of Point Reyes Compost Company: Teddy Stray and Rhonda Moore are passionate about compost and believe any good foundation starts with the soil. The winning bidder will receive a site visit from one or both of them to assess your soil needs and provide up to a truckload of rich compost to help you build your garden space. This West-Marin made compost is full of microbial life that will nourish your garden patch and can help build your soil structure, increase and improve soil nutrient retention and water holding capacity, while also helping to sequester carbon production, reduce the need for fertilizers and lower greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants.

The winning bidder will also receive a copy of Golden Gate Gardening, a local reference to planting in the Bay Area, as well as a Northern Seed Can containing 60 varieties of non-GMO seeds and a gardening hand  tool from our friends at Petaluma Seed Bank to help get your garden sprouting. The Petaluma Seed Bank is home to Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company's west coast location offering over 1,200 varieties of non-GMO heirloom seeds, tools, books, and hundreds of local hand-made gifts and food items.
