Item Description
East Bay artist Margaret Chavigny likes to work somewhere between order, chaos, intention, and chance. Her paintings were included in the Bedford Gallerys exhibition Working In Wax, a show that focused on artists using encaustic (hot wax and oil pigment) to create their work. Margarets abstract paintings explore interconnections of family, childhood memory, and her spiritual interest in yoga and meditation. Chavigny's process is organic and cumulative, allowing the images to unfold and synthesize through layering, obscuring, and uncovering. Working exclusively with encaustic, her process is much like building a collagelayer upon layeruntil the geometric and organic shapes give way to a composition.
