Item Description
Spend a day in a one-on-one tutorial with Larry Schmitt, instructor at North House Folk School, learning how to make a nålbound rag rug. Larry teaches Scandinavian-style Nålbinding At North House, but during this tutorial the focus is on the American Pioneer tradition of rag rugs produced with nålbinding stitches. Nålbound rugs have suffered from the economic phenomenon known as “creative destruction,” but in this tutorial the winning bidder will commune with pioneer spirits by making a needle, preparing rags, and creating a table mat, chair pad, or rug. Larry has taught nålbinding for more than thirty years and has been a regular at North House since the early years. This auction item is suitable for beginning or experienced textile enthusiasts interested in exploring a truly American tradition.
Item Special Note
Winning bidder will receive Larry's contact information to schedule the class directly. Please note that Larry is only available to teach at North House October 27, 2013, and May 13 or 19, 2014. Later dates may be available as well.
