Item Description

Help save elephants by making a donation of $40 to build a beehive to put on a farmers fence to keep elephants away from agricultural land.

Elephants destroy crops in some areas in Africa causing the loss of food security for villagers.

Beehives and beehive fencing is a peaceful solution to this conflict.  Elephants are afraid of the sound of bees therefore keep away from the local people and the valuable crop.

Item Special Note

The Houston Zoo work with partners in Mozambique and Kenya to promote sustainable livelihoods and protection of wildlife. Your support is critical for this work to continue.

The beehive fence has shown to be an economically viable and humane deterrent for elephant intent on moving into cropland. This lessened wildlife presence in human areas allows for less animosity from local peoples who retaliate after crop raids and human-elephant conflict injuries and thus acts to preserve wild elephant populations.
