Item Description
This gem includes three 1914 poster stamps of the California Missions: Santa Ynes, San Juan Capistrano, and San Fernando. A poster stamp was usually an advertising label, a little larger than most postage stamps. They originated in the mid-19th century and quickly became a collecting craze, growing in popularity up until World War One and then declining by World War II. Poster Stamps were originally miniaturizations of full-sized posters. Fancy triple-matted. They were copyright in 1914 by Volland Poster Stamp Company and the condition of the stamps are very good, as they are protected quite well. 11" x 6.5" (for more on Poster Stamps go to: http://www.ephemerasociety.org/articles/posterstamps.html)
