Item Special Note
About the artist, Denise Alvarez:
Denise Kyer Alvarez, who has been drawing since she was old enough to hold a pencil, was raised in Parker, Colorado. She currently resides in Albuquerque and has called New Mexico home for over 23 years. Denise is an award-winning artist including Best of Show at the Llano Estacado Art Association annual show in Hobbs, New Mexico, 1997. She also has numerous ribbons and trophies that have been won at the professional level in major ceramic shows in New Mexico, Colorado and Oklahoma. Her work is currently n private collections throughout the Southwest.
Denise is a self-taught artist who works primarily in acrylics. While she can do a wide variety of subject and media she believes she has found her niche in the creation of her Dia de Los Muertos paintings. She loves the freedom, spirituality, variety and bold colors often associated with this subject. When asked about the process for one of her meticulously created paintings she explains," I get the ideas in my head, feel them in my heart, and just have to bring them to life, whether it be on canvas, rawhide, bone, wood or ceramics. The only problem is the ideas always come much faster than I can paint them!"
Denise is represented by Masks Y Mas Art Gallery in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
