About the artist, Kym Loc:

Many times I’ve been asked what inspired me to use trees in my artwork. The answer is simple once you understand me. I put myself in each tree because as I define who I am, I know that I want to be, and I can be sturdy, strong, beautiful and confident. As a tree grows, it becomes just that, and just like every new branch that is ‘brought to life’, we also take a new path, which brings new beauty and strength to our soul. As we confidently look from the inside, we need to believe that if we continue to nourish our foundation and make it strong and defined, it doesn’t matter which way our branches grow, we can show beauty, not only to others, but to ourselves as well. After 17 years of narrow guidance, and 17 more of going through life blind, my kids and I left “Controlville” to start our own journey through life’s crowded room. When I got my renewed sight, I wasn’t sure which way to go or how to find a compass.

After about 4 years, I found it someone to almost force me to start owning my self-definition. For me it was a man who already knew what his own definition was to make me realize I didn’t know as much as I thought. I soon realized what true respect and love really was, not only for this man, my husband, and our relationship, but also equally as important, for myself. After this, the rest of my self-definition fell into place a lot easier. To this day I am still inspired by this man. Every piece of my work is inspired by something that has happened in my life, whether its something new, something I’ve healed from, something realized, or something desired. I love the fact that when others share how my work has touched them, it inspires me all over again. Hearing them, understanding them, helps me realize there are a lot of us on our journey to our own ‘self-awakening’.
