Adirondack Chair, designed and painted by Zilin Cui and Carly Cheng.
Zilin Cui was born in Beijing, China and has lived in Needham since middle school. She will enter her senior year at Needham High School, after having taken AP Art in her junior year. Her other works include a chair for Black Sheep Knitting in 2012, a part in the mural at JFK School in Jamaica Plain, and the cover of the 2012 Exchange Book Club phone book. She also plays violin in the Youth Symphony orchestra at Rivers School Conservatory, and participates in the speech and debate teams at Needham HS and contributes to the school’s literary magazine, “The Rag.” She has also volunteered at MEEI and the Community Boating Inc. in sailing classes; has worked on art projects for the JFK School’s “R.E.A.C.H.” program; and this summer she was in intern at the Elm Street School in Walpole where she worked in summer classes for children with learning disabilities.
Carly Cheng is a senior at Needham High School and has called Needham her home for the past seventeen years. She has been studying in the high school’s art program for the past three years and recently completed her AP Art Portfolio. She has also explored art and design at the Museum of Fine Arts and the Boston Architectural College. She also plays the piano, is an editor for her high school’s literary magazine, “The Rag”, and is co-president of the Mandarin Club at Needham High School. She enjoys working with the Needham community and is a student intern and volunteer at the Town Hall’s Great Hall Concert series. Her other works as an artist include a painted chair for Black Sheep Knitting Co. at last year’s “A Chair to Remember” event and had a painting featured in Needham’s Art in Bloom this past year.
