Item Special Note
A note about the artist, Conny Sena:
"Conny Sena is one of the most talented artists to hit the Albuqeurque scene in 2013. After long years of working in solitude, she's ready to show her organic sculptures. Her pieces begin as dry cottonwood branches that she, like a wise curandera, finds along the river. Each branch speaks to her, informing her of its evolution. Conny's art enriches the branches with bright New Mexican colors, delicate stone inlay, and spiritual symbols that speak to our longing for connection to Mother Earth. Her stone work, too, is alive with the same spirituality.
I'm proud to say that one of her sculptures graces our home. Contemplate Conny's fascinating new genre and you'll afree with me, she is an artist to appreciate and to collect."
-Rudolfo Anaya
"The seeds to her artwork inspiration happened in 2007, but she was yet to know. 'My neighbor came over and gave me this,' Sena says, pointing to a branch in the corner of her living room. It stands nearly seven feet tall and is covered in blue paint. When Sena's therapist suggested artwork, Sena looked at that branch differently. Soon, she was walking along the Rio Grande, looking for the perfect branches. 'I wanted to breathe life into them. I saw a store in them,' Sena says, adding that she feels each one has a soul."
