Item Description

Andrea Kanner Halbfinger '62
Untitled, 2013
pastel

"Since I graduated from Bennington, in 1962, as an art major, I have been involved with fine art in one way or another. I was an art critic for The Washington Post, for five months when I was 22; an art columnist for several monthlies and a weekly; and briefly, an art teacher in the public schools. I also gave lectures on art to adults, as part of a community recreation program. For ten years I taught children’s art classes in a PTA–sponsored workshop.

But mainly, I have been a painter. I have participated in group shows and in a few one-man shows, in libraries, synagogues and a co-op gallery. Since I moved into Manhattan five years ago, I have been painting in a studio on the lower east side. I have developed a web site with my paintings, which while smaller than my color field paintings, are still a substantial size – 36 x 36 or 30 x 40. You can see my work on the web site, www.andreahalbfinger.com.

My paintings for the past three years combine my love of the human body and gesture drawing with dance movement and abstraction. They are joyous and meant to give pleasure to the viewer. There is an artist’s statement on my website, as well as a resume. I am happy to participate in the 5x7 show, although the petite size is a challenge for me." -Andrea Kanner Halbfinger
