I have been thinking about food as art. We’ve all seen the classic paintings of pears, apples or loaves of bread, designed to symbolize futility, lustful hunger or home respectively.

Art is a strange thing. The whole idea of someone making a painting and then hanging it up on a public wall to be looked at by strangers is just bizarre. When I first started painting, I did it, not for public opinion, but because I needed to paint. Sometimes painting felt great, other times it felt horrible, but, no matter what, I had to paint. I still need to paint. I still crave it, but I am now also driven by the loose cycle of humiliation and egotism that goes along with public recognition. This art that still feels great sometimes and horrible other times, this obsession I can’t keep myself from, has taken on an odd dimension that renders itself ridiculous and I am most grateful.
