Item Special Note
Altamura
Cabernet Sauvignon 2004, Napa, North Coast
Wine Advocate 94:
I was blown away by the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, which spent almost 34 months in 70% new French oak barrels. The wine is beautifully impressive, with a deep ruby/purple color and notes of loamy soil intermixed with creme de cassis, cedar, and licorice. The wine is full-bodied, powerful, but beautifully nuanced and nicely structured, with sweet, silky tannins. This wine should evolve for at least 20 or more years.
Altamura has been making wines for almost 20 years, and I certainly thought several of these wines were the best I ever had from them. They are located in Wooden Valley, which is mostly volcanic soils about nine miles northeast of Napa.
Ramey Jericho Canyon Vineyard Proprietary Red
Wine 2004,
Napa, North Coast
Wine Advocate 94:
The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Jericho Canyon Vineyard (a 1,730-case cuvee of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot and Cabernet Franc) has an inky dark ruby/purple color, a wonderfully sweet nose of espresso roast, fudge, blackberry, and cassis with a hint of incense and smoke. The wine is full-bodied, broadly flavored, opulent, and voluptuous, and that in itself seems to give the wine its current appeal, although I think this is a candidate for at least two decades of cellaring.
Anderson's Conn Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Reserve 2006, Napa, North Coast
Wine Advocate 94:
One of the more underrated Cabernet Sauvignons in Napa is Anderson’s Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from no other place than ... the Conn Valley. The unfined, unfiltered 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve spends two years in French oak and another year in the bottle before being released. This cuvee has a long track record of aging (the 1990 and 1991 are still going strong). The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2006 offers notes of new saddle leather, black currants, autumnal vegetation/forest floor, cassis, and cherries, superb richness, and a full-bodied, powerful finish.
