Item Description

8"x10" Custom Watercolor Portrait of Your Family by Susan Kricorian, an MCS parent (see samples!)

About Susan:

I was born in Cambridge and raised in Watertown, Massachusetts in a tightly-knit Armenian community.  As a young girl, I loved to draw and spend time outdoors in our big backyard with its fruit trees and gardens. I was inspired by the brightly colored flowers, mosses, and insects I saw there.  In school I was praised and told that my artwork was beautiful. Color and pattern have always appealed to me. When I painted, it gave me great pleasure to watch the colors bleed and blend with one another in unpredictable and exciting ways.

I attended The School of the Museum of Fine Arts—Tufts University in Boston and studied drawing, painting, photography, color theory and art education.  I loved the colorful works of Red Grooms, Romare Bearden, Faith Ringgold, Henri Matisse, Alice Neel, Paul Gaugin and others. While at school, I worked at the university radio station as a DJ, and studied dance after class.

After I received a BFA from Tufts, I packed my bags and moved to New York City and began my journey as an artist and art educator. I have taught art in a public middle school since 1989, during which time I acquired my MS in education from Bank Street College of Education.

I have continued to express my thoughts and feelings through my art, using brushes and paint to narrate many stories over the past few decades.  I recently began a new body of work based on old photographs taken by my father as well as Armenian themed paintings.
