Item Description

Two-hour phone consultation with Camille North

You've finally made the big decision to homeschool … and now you're thinking, "What the heck have I gotten myself into?"

For some, Attachment Parenting and homeschooling go hand in hand. But if you're just starting on the homeschooling journey, you may feel a bit overwhelmed. If you've ever thought it would be nice to sit down with a neighbor, an AP neighbor--one who's a long-time homeschooling veteran and has already made all the mistakes (so you don’t have to!)--here’s your chance.

You might recognize Camille North as the editor of API Links, Attachment Parenting International’s monthly newsletter. But Camille is also a long-time secular homeschooling parent to three children, ages 17, 15, and 13, and is wending her way through the middle school and high school years.

Camille facilitates her children's education through what many call “eclectic homeschooling”; she follows her children’s interests through creative education, while ensuring that her kids have enough knowledge to achieve their goals--whatever they are--throughout life. And she does so with an AP mindset.

Camille is now lending her expertise through one-on-one consultations. But don’t expect a this-is-the-only-way-to-do-it approach. Camille will talk with you about your unique situation, your individual children, and the needs of your family. She can give you pointers and resources that will assist you in determining the best way to focus your efforts to achieve your homeschooling goals efficiently while keeping the peace (and sanity) in your family. And yes, she'll answer that dreaded question, "What about socialization?"

Camille has been a fixture in Austin’s homeschooling community for many years. She

  • moderates the Austin Area Homeschoolers group, an inclusive, informal group of homeschooling families, about 2,500 members strong,
  • hosts the monthly support group for homeschoolers in and around Austin,
  • runs the local National Geography Bee (her oldest was beaten only by the 2011 and 2012 National winners and placed sixth in the nation at the U.S. Geography Olympiad),
  • helps to run the middle school and high school Austin Area Homeschoolers’ science teams, which compete in Science Bowl and Science Olympiad, where the teams rank high in the state each year (her daughter at age 12 won second place in the nation in the Young Scientist Challenge and visited the Mythbusters as her prize, and just gave a speech introducing Kari Byron at a STEM luncheon),
  • coordinates a weekly parent-run co-op that has been operating successfully for twenty years,
  • gives homeschooling informational sessions at local libraries and other venues,
  • is a nationally published author,
  • is heavily involved with the Austin music scene, as her children are all in rock bands and perform regularly around town (her youngest has recently been asked to perform with a long-standing adult blues band),
  • is beginning the intricate and ever-evolving process of college applications, and
  • is seriously trying to figure out how to warp space-time so she can get everyone where they want to go.

Camille has a master’s degree in biopsychology and spent her pre-mom life in academic publishing.
