Item Description

Artist: Mary Francis Millet

Title: The Fabric of America

Artist Statement: My Uncle Sam is constructed with antique quilt pieces and other early textiles. An authentic Troy collar and early brass buttons were found at a local antique shop. He wears vintage Wrangler and Lee jeans and boots fashioned from a vintage tie. His mosaic-like face represents the various cultures in the U.S. today. To see photos and more, see www.maryfrancesmillet.com.

Artist Biography: I studied graphic design at the Professional Institute of Commercial Art in Md, received degree in OT from Maria college and B.A. In Sociology from a combo of SUNY Albany and Ashford University.

Received watercolor instruction from Karen Rosasco , AWS and several other artists in the past 20 yrs.

Exhibited extensively in the Capital District of NY and Florida. A physical collection of my work can be viewed at the Niche Gallery in Saratoga.

I have been teaching private and group classes in watercolor and other subjects for 8 years at various locations including MVP Healthcare's Wellness Program, Arts Center of the Capital Region, Walter Elwood Museum in Amsterdam, Malta Community Center, FOVAPA Arts in Fonda, Saratoga Springs High School Continuing Ed and the Children's Museum in Scotia.

Currently I teach senior art classes at the Holiday at the Atrium in Glenville, Niskayuna Senior Center and the Spinney at Pond View in Castleton. Coming soon are classes at Beacon Point Memory care in Clifton Park and Atria Crossgates.

My watercolor style is loose and colorful. My philosophy is that watercolor is a lesson in letting go...to stop working so hard and let the paint, water and paper work together without too much intervention by the painter.
