The winning bidder receives a two-year membership to the Cleveland Heights Historical Society, including the "View from the Overlook" newsletter, which features original research and stories about the history of Cleveland Heights.
Also included in this package is the book, "Euclid Golf Neighborhood," by local authors, Deanna Bremer Fisher and Hugh P. Fisher.
The Cleveland Heights Historical Society, established in 1983, is a state-chartered, 501(c)(3), not-for-profit historic preservation organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the diverse character and traditions of Cleveland Heights.
Members further the Society's missions of developing greater community knowledge and understanding of the city’s heritage and advancing the cause of historic preservation in The Heights. The "View from the Overlook" newsletter provides local history buffs with access to original historical research and writing that cannot be found anywhere else.
"Euclid Golf Neighborhood" reveals in vintage images the excellent planning and history of one of the finest neighborhoods in the country. Euclid Golf was built on land owned by John D. Rockefeller, who lent it to the Euclid Club for its golf course. Developer Barton R. Deming employed Garden City principles and deed restrictions to entice the elite of Cleveland, while architects Howell and Thomas, Charles Schneider, and others designed splendid houses in the revival styles that defined gracious living. As prominent Clevelanders made their homes in Euclid Golf, Fairmount Boulevard became known as "The Euclid Avenue of the Heights." Deanna Bremer Fisher and Hugh P. Fisher uncovered these historic photographs of the Euclid Golf development while researching their own Euclid Golf homes, and in an attic they found the original drawings from architects Howell and Thomas. Their work has resulted in Euclid Golf's listing with the National Register of Historic Places.
