Item Description
Two spectacular hummingbird photos by photojournalist Mark Lender will be a great addition to your bare walls! Details on the two photos, each of which is signed and dated:
- An 8x12 photo of a female broad-billed hummingbird taken at Madera Canyon, Arizona, in June 2013.
- A 6x9 photo of a female black-chinned hummingbird, also taken at Madera Canyon this past June.
Both species occur with equal frequency during their breeding season in New Mexico with the broad-billed species found in the extreme southwestern part of the state while the black-chinned variety is found throughout the Land of Enchantment.
Lender says, "If you look at the tips of the feathers of the female broad-billed hummingbird, you'll notice that they are quite worn, which is typical for the time of year [when the photo was taken] and means she was about to go into molt. Also, worn feathers give her hum a distinct, and quite apparent, ticking sound."
You can hear Living on Earth on KUNM every Wednesday morning from 8-9am
