Item Description

Running a public radio newsroom can be challenging. There's a lot going on! So KUNM's Elaine Baumgartel uses a centering art form to get grounded.

Bid on a pair of hand-made bud vases, glazed with a color of your choice. Elaine throws the pieces by hand on a potter's wheel and combines multiple lead-free glazes to achieve a multi-layered effect on the white porcelain/stoneware mix clay body.
You'll meet with Elaine over lunch to discuss the process and hear more about the projects in the KUNM Newsroom.

An accomplished potter, Elaine's work at KUNM started when she volunteered to answer phones during a KUNM pledge drive in 2003 and she's been unable to drag herself away from public radio ever since.  And why would she want to?  She's worn many sets of headphones at the station. Currently, she's KUNM's Interim News Director.

As a graduate student in the Communication and Journalism MA program at UNM, Elaine worked at KUNM in the operations, programming, and news departments.  She's been the local anchor of NPR's Morning Edition, a reporter in the KUNM newsroom, and the host and producer of the KUNM Call-In Show.

In her spare time, Elaine likes to garden and work with ceramics in addition to spending time with her family.

Please note: the vases and glaze options shown in the photo are representative - you will have a wide range of glaze options and shapes.
