Item Description

Pat Trujillo, (Co-Founder of "Not Made In China Pottery Studio" and life-long  New Mexican Native), is one of the local Artisan Crafters that produce our Chile line right here in Albuquerque. The process begins first on the wheel, where the form starts to shape in individual artisan hands.  Next we hand sculpt individual chiles and color with liquid clays (slips) red, green, or both.  Lisa (also an AB@ native) and I lovingly adorn the wheel thrown forms with the new mexican chiles.  After letting the clay forms dry together as one for a few weeks, the clay form  is bisque fired at roughly 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. After applying the silica rich glaze the piece goes through an another firing at 2232 degrees Fahrenheit for about 24 hours.  This high firing gives the form lasting strength and beauty good for 10,000 years!  But as in all fine glass and ceramics, you must hand wash only.

This 2.5 " high chip and dip bowl  (outer bowl diameter is 11 " with an  inner bowl diameter  of 3.5")  is food, oven and microwave safe. This wheel-thrown vessel is  part of an exclusive Chile line only offered and produced right here in Albuquerque!

The studio is conveniently located on the on the SW corner of Yale and Avenida Cesar Chavez SE,  is an artisian cooperative where members enjoy the benefits of studio and gallery space selling to the public that offers the lowest priced memberships with the most benefits. We are a local start-up Company that was created by UNM and CNM students facing an economy that currently has little to no production of goods and jobs. Materials are purchased from our local supplier, New Mexico Clay. Here at Not Made in China Pottery Studio, we bring local production, classes and job creation back to America together with YOU!  Interested in trying out the clay experience --check out our website: notmadeinchinapottery.com/ or our facebook page.
