Item Description

Hand painted silk crepe de chine silk kimono.  Size M/L

A bold, unique and colorful piece to add a modern accent to any wardrobe!

Laura Quilligan.............fiberartist:

I am most inspired by the immense beauty of the natural world. I'm intrigued, fascinated and enchanted by the work of the American modernist painters of the 1950's & 1960's; and visit the works of Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Franz Kline, Henri Matisse, Paul Gaugin, and the Impressionists, etc., at all MOMAs in whatever city I happen to be in. I am also amazed by the Color Field Abstract Expressionists of the 20th and 21st centuries.

It is an honor and delight to emulate in whatever way I can this perennial style of art in my art to wear.
Please enjoy the pieces as much as I enjoy sharing and creating them for women (or men) to wear....

STATEMENT:The artist's job is to help people gain an awareness of our connected reality. I offer my wearable art as a contribution to this reality. When we look at how cloth is made, we see a connection "unfolding"...Plant or silkworm are connected to mill and weaver. Mill and weaver are connected to stitcher. Mill, weaver and stitcher are all connected to marketplace and so forth; until cloth becomes garment and finds it's home with someone. Using juxtapositions of color, line, texture and shape, the artist reveals an alternative viewpoint..Like an open window letting in fresh air, we breathe in our connection to the beauty in the world. While realizing beauty, people transform their attitude in a positive way. Thinking positively, each person then contributes to a collective civilized mind stream. In this way, art is an urgent necessity.
