Item Description
The Sarasota Opera is celebrating its 55th season and is not to be missed! Since 1983 the company has been under the artistic leadership of Victor DeRenzi. Since then, the company has garnered international attention with its Masterwork Revivals Series, which presents neglected works of artistic merit, as well as the Verdi Cycle producing the complete works of Giuseppe Verdi.
The winning bidder will have the opportunity to attend one of the following operas.
Il trovatore - A troubador's quest for love, a soldier's lust, and a mother's undying thirst for vengeance is the story of this dramatic opera by Verdi. Premiered in 1853, Il trovatore features such operatic favorites as the great "Di quella pira" for tenor and the famous "Anvil Chorus."
The Flying Dutchman - Ancient lore comes to life in the tale of a cursed sea captain forced to wander the world, ultimately finding redemption in the selfless gift of a woman's love. Last seen in Sarasota in 2000, the unbridled weight and force of Wagner's THE FLYING DUTCHMAN will enthrall audiences as they voyage through this mystical world.
The Sarasota Opera House completed a $20 million historic renovation and restoration in 2008. The project was designed to restore the historic 1926 theater to its original glory, while creating a venue for opera for the 21st century. Decorative details have been restored, seating has been replaced, and the orchestra pit almost doubled in size to accomodate operas that require larger orchestras.
