“...poetic and gently ironic, brilliant yet clear-minded, intelligent but not without humour, all translated through a beautifully clear and singing touch.”
— The Independent
Item Special Note
Arguably one of the most thrilling pianists on the cusp of a major international career performing today, Benjamin Grosvenor is recognized for his electrifying performances and penetrating interpretations. An exquisite technique and ingenious flair for tonal color are the hallmarks which make him one of the most sought-after young pianists in the world. At 19, he performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra on their first night of the 2011 BBC Proms to a sold-out Royal Albert Hall. That same year the Daily Telegraph named him one of its “Top 10 Britons of the year.” His Portland program will include Schubert (Opus 90, No. 3), Schumann (Opus 20), and Valses of Ravel (Nobles et sentimetales) and Gounod/Liszt (Faust).
Program:
Mendelssohn: Andante & Rondo capriccioso Op. 14
Schubert: Impromptu in G-flat Major, Op. 90, No. 3
Schumann: Humoreske, Op.20 - intermission -
Mompou: possibly Paisajas (tbc)
Medtner: 2 Fairy Tales
Ravel: Valses nobles et sentimentales
Gounod/Liszt: Valse de Faust
