Item Description
Pleasing in appearance and satisfyingly heavy in the hand. This spongeware pitcher is in wonderful condition. "Spongeware" refers to the way this heavy clay stoneware was decorated produced in the late 1800's. Blue glaze was applied over a White (Bristol) glaze with a rag or a sponge. This pitcher features all-over sponge decoration with a blue band along the top rim as well as around the base. Handle has a thumb press top. This is not a reproduction. A lovely representative piece of this stoneware form.
Details: Excellent condition--no chips, cracks or repairs. Measures 6 3/4" tall and approx. 5" wide.
