Item Description

Naturally-dyed raw silk & alpaca yarn diptych

Size: 14" x 16"

Status: Unframed

This piece was inspired by a workshop I attended at Gospel Flat Farm in the spring of 2013. I attended a workshop taught by Sasha Duerr of Permacouture about natural dyeing with seasonal plants. We collected vegetables, flowers, and weeds from Gospel Flat Farm and boiled the plant material to create a beautiful palette of spring colors true to Bolinas. Using this newfound knowledge and love for natural dye, I turned to my backyard in San Rafael over the summer to create dye from the plants at my home, including mint leaves, Meyer lemons, rosemary, and juniper. I sew outside, attaching plant material to fabric, and then spray the natural dye onto the surface of the fabric to reveal the imprint of the plants.
