About The Artist, NIELS BREUM:
His story:

My grandfather believed I was a talented artist as a child. An original draughtsman, he always brought some of my drawings along on his travels in the end of the 1950’s. My grandfather, Robert, was an ex-communist and very good at creating contact to others and he met many interesting people, mostly unknown ex-communists, but also a number of celebrities.

In 1959-1960 Robert met Pablo Picasso and naturally he took the opportunity to show him some of my drawings. According to Robert, Picasso was thrilled and believed that I could go far, as my grandfather told me. So from childhood, I was convinced I should make a career as an artist.

My entourage had enough reason to tell me that one could not make a living out of it so I gave up the idea, rather early, but I continued to draw until 1974 when I, then between two marriages and a very festive life, gave it up.

I was born in 1950,  and was no more than two years old when my father brought me along to museums. I still distinctly recollect my astonishment over the missing limbs and head of the torso at the National Gallery of Denmark.

Since then, I have taken every opportunity to frequent art museums. I have never lost touch with art, not event when I stopped drawing in 1974, and became merely been a very interested spectator.

In May 2009, my wife and I went to Berlin and the Museum Berggruen and there I had what you might call an artistic revelation – to see the paintings of Matisse, Picasso and Klee again had in a few hours convinced me that I obviously had to paint !

My paintings are a natural continuation of my drawings and it feels as if the 35-year break never happened. I exhibit in Berlin and Copenhagen and my works of art are showcased in Argentina, Austria, Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Greenland, India, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Sweden, USA and Denmark.
