Whether you are going out for the day, or backpacking a few nights in the mountains, safety is key. The REI Hikers First Aid Kit ($23) offers everything needed for 3 people for 2 days while backpacking or camping. Packed in a zippered nylon case, this first aid kit is fully stocked. For quick reference while on the trail, refer to ”The Wilderness First Aid Manual” by Dr. William Forgey. Treat any cuts and scrapes with any of the seven large adhesive bandages, 2 knuckle adhesive bandages, 2 fingertip bandages and 3 butterfly closures. It also includes four gauze pads, a non-adherent pad, two sterile top sponges, an abdominal/pressure pad, stretch gauze roll, tape and elastic bandage. The REI First Aid Kit also includes 3 antibacterial wipes, 3 triple-antibiotic ointment packets and 3 sting relief wipes. Numerous medications, bandage scissors and splinter forceps can also be found. From minor scrapes to life threatening emergencies, this kit can handle whatever nature may bring. Don’t leave home unprepared.
