Item Special Note

In contrast to using the hand directly, MARSHA COTTRELL employs repeatable graphic units in countless layers of multi-pass printing to create unique images that seek the contemplative and the sublime among the tools of productive, utilitarian society.

Cottrell’s work has been included in group exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (San Francisco, CA), Kunst im Tunnel (Dusseldorf, DE), and the Whitney Museum of American Art at Altria (New York, NY), among others. Selected solo exhibitions include Petra Rinck Galerie (Dusseldorf, DE), Henry Urbach Architecture (New York, NY), g-module (Paris), and Derek Eller Gallery (New York, NY).

Cottrell’s work can be found in numerous private and public collections, among them the Museum of Modern Art New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC. Cottrellhas received Fellowship grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the New York Foundation for the Arts and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. In 2014 she received a biennial award from The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation.
