Located in Ocean County on the southern New Jersey shore, the Tuckerton Seaport comprises 40 acres along Tuckerton Creek of which 16 acres make up the recreated maritime village and nature trail, and the remaining 24 acres are undeveloped Green Acres land held for nature interpretation and future expansion. Tuckerton Seaport serves as a showcase for New Jersey's rich maritime culture. At the beginning of 2011, the Seaport consisted of three historic buildings; two vintage houseboats; 13 ADA compliant recreated structures; one ADA compliant restaurant (leased to a professional restaurateur); 27 floating docks and one ADA compliant building in progress, the blacksmith shop. The Seaport, which first opened in May 2000, is committed to furthering the public knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the Barnegat Bay and surrounding environment through exhibition, artist demonstration, educational programming, research, and documentation. The Tuckerton Seaport is fundamentally a grassroots result of the efforts of a small group of dedicated local outdoorsmen who were able to strike an emotional spark that has resulted in perhaps the largest living history museum in New Jersey.
