Item Description
This lovely hand-made, hand-painted wood jewelry box was purchased in Tehran, Iran in 2013. The box is a "Khatam," a Persian version of marquetry, an art form made by decorating the surface of wooden objects with delicate pieces of wood, bone, and metal precisely cut into geometrical shapes. Many of these works are also decorated with drawings, paints and enamels, as seen on this beautiful box, which measures approximately 8x3x2 inches and is lined in red velvet.
