About Embassy Landmark Cinema:

6 Screens. Built in 1998. Operated by Landmark since 1998. The Embassy Cinema is located in the heart of Downtown Waltham near some of the greater Boston Area's finest restaurants. For a night of fine dining, within walking distance are Carambola, Tuscan Grill and Ristorante Marcellino. If you're in the mood for more casual dining and a beer, Watch City Brewing Company will pour you a pint of its finest, or down the street, Lizzy's Homemade Ice Cream will satisfy your every craving.

Featuring a mix of independent film, foreign language cinema and Hollywood favorites, the Embassy Cinema is the perfect centerpiece to a night on the town in Waltham. "It takes just one step into the lobby of the Embassy Cinema to realize you’ve found something a little bit different" says Andrew Merritt in Wicked Local Waltham.

"The tidy, two-floor room is cleaned and polished like that of a large multiplex, with well-cared-for carpet featuring the twirling ribbon shapes that are a theme throughout the movie house’s design – a nod to snips of film reel. Metal posts with nylon straps connecting them form an ad hoc pathway to the box office, where an employee uses a computer to print tickets.

But the familiar feel of the multiplex starts to dissipate when you look a little closer. As with your typical three-dozen-screen movie megalopolis, Embassy’s walls are adorned with movie posters. But rather than a spate of current films with little or no shelf life, inside those poster frames are beautiful images for films both classic and obscure with – get this – French titles. And with its dark but warm, earthy hues, subtle lighting, and general layout, the lobby is, if you squint a bit, reminiscent of the richly designed foyer of the French cinema in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds.”

In a nutshell, it explains the mission of the Embassy. It’s part of the Landmark Theatres chain, which has 54 houses in 21 metropolitan areas, including two in greater Boston – the Embassy in Waltham and the Kendall Square in Cambridge. As such, it has some of the amenities found in every commercial theater – online ticketing, high-quality sound and picture, and all of the usual big-name candies and sodas."
