OIL PAINTING OF CALIFORNIA’S
MISSION SAN CARLOS BORROMEO del rio CARMELO
By Carmel Artist Erhard Lux
Erhard Lux has perfectly captured the essence and ambiance of the historic Mission San Carlos Borromeo del rio Carmelo in this oil on canvas. Framed, it is approximately 19.5” x 24”.
Founded in 1771, the mission was the second of the California missions to open. It is named for Saint Charles of Borremeo, a 16th century Italian cardinal, and is designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark.
Born in Germany, Erhard Lux is a self-taught artist and divides his time between Carmel, California and Moorea, French Polynesia. His artwork has been featured several times on French Polynesian postage stamps. Observant of daily life and landscapes, he is known for reproducing scenes that will "serve the memory of the future".
