Item Description
The winner will receive a pair of tickets to the Sixth Annual Jane Austen Dance on May 17, 2014, plus entry to two practice classes prior to the dance.
The total value of the package is $50. The dance will be held at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush Street, Las Vegas, and is co-sponsored by the Southern Nevada Old-Time Contra Dancers, and the City of Las Vegas Office of Cultural Affairs. The Jane Austen Dance features English Country dances from the Regency Era when Jane Austen lived (1775-1817) and wrote her famous novels. The ball will feature a live chamber ensemble, playing period music on instruments in use at that time.
Dancers and other attendees are encouraged (but not required) to wear formal Regency dress or period military uniforms or Scottish kilts. Refreshments based on recipes from the Regency timeframe will be featured.
The package includes admittance to two of these dance classes for each person. Potential dance participants are encouraged to attend as many practices as possible before the event because each dance of the evening has its own choreography, and familiarity with this choreography will enhance participants enjoyment of the May 19th event. At the Jane Austen evening, each dance will be briefly walked through before the music begins, and will also be called while the musicians are playing. Successful bidders are requested to contact lvcontra@gmail.com prior to attending either a practice session or the dance so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
