Item Description
What’s the best thing about staying 2 nights in a 600-year-old Irish castle and 5 nights in a 300-year-old Irish mansion? The year is 2014, so you no longer have to worry about being attacked by marauding clans of vagabonds hoping to steal your cattle (if you live in a castle, you have cattle. Among many, many other things). The next best thing about your stay? Over the last few centuries the castle and mansion have been somewhat remodeled, so you’ll be able to brush your teeth, and check your email, and do whatever else you would normally do at two of the most luxurious places you’ll ever stay. The third best thing? The mansion is in Dublin, which is arguably the coolest city in Europe. Museums, theatres, night life, a strong arts scene, thriving local markets, shopping. Nobel laureate W. B. Yeats is from Dublin, and Oscar Wilde and Colin Farrell and Gabriel Byrne. Also, Dublin (Ireland as well) is really old, but old in a good way. It has a history and sights you cannot see in California. Things that predate In-N-Out Burger. Like the 300-year-old Kenah Hill Mansion with its own name, live-in staff, 4 acres of grounds, a one acre organic kitchen garden, a pool, a tennis court, and a Porsche Cayenne (the pool and the tennis court and the Porsche don’t predate In-N-Out, but you get the idea). At the 600-year-old Castle Leslie, set on 1000 acres, you can fish, shoot skeet, kayak, try falconry (falconry! that is old!), take a trip in a hot air balloon, ride horses (it’s home to the largest equestrian center in Europe), and do about a thousand other things. Same with Dublin and the mansion; there is more to do than we have space to describe. |
Understanding that so much luxurious old Ireland might be a bit overwhelming (I suppose anything’s possible?), we’re going to “throw in” some luxurious new Ireland — 2 to 3 nights in a penthouse apartment at the absolutely stellar Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa in Southern Ireland. Aghadoe Heights has lakes. It has mountains. It has hillwalking, mountain climbing, riding (bike and horse), castles, and something called the Ring of Kerry. And the apartment? Here’s what GQ magazine had to say: “Is this the best penthouse in the world?” I don’t know; let us know when you get back.
Item Special Note
Package can accommodate up to 8 people and includes 2 nights at Castle Leslie, and 2 to 3 nights in a penthouse apartment at the Agahadoe Heights Hotel & Spa. Plus 5 nights at the Kenah Hill Mansion in Dublin, with daily breakfast, one lunch and one dinner for 8 at the acclaimed Restaurant Forty One in the Residence Club, and use of a Porsche Cayenne. Stay must occur during the summer of 2014, dates to be mutually agreed upon. Airfare not included.
