DANCING EARTH Walking at the Edge of Water Poster:
Each image expresses an element of our most recent show, Walking at the Edge of Water, which explores the pollution and potential for healing within our bodies, and those of the planet.
Top L: Director Rulan Tangen splashes to life, representing the life and vigor our individual expression can bring to a desolate world. With the company's second critically acclaimed tour completed in 2013, she has launched a new wave of work currently titled "Origi-Nation: Roots & Seeds".
Top R: The women of DANCING EARTH bring numerous cultural backgrounds to our circle. In Walking at the Edge of Water they depicted the strength and sacredness of water, relating many stories of pollution and purification through our embodied art. The multiple reflections in this image relate a central idea we've rediscovered in movement—in the waters of Earth we see ourselves.
Btm L: Champion Hoop dancer Nakohtah Larance cartwheels over concrete with playful vigor. As a trickster in Walking at the Edge of Water's "Mad Max" costume, he embodies an alternative way to move in this era of widespread environmental destruction.
Btm R:Company apprentice Sophia Littlebird brings the wonder and soft beauty of rebirth, much as a seedling emerges from its shell, seeing and creating newness in the world around it...
DANCING EARTH Of Bodies of Elements Documentary DVD
This short documentary by filmmaker Jonathan Sims of No Reservations Productions includes a 5 minute motion clip from our cardinal eco-production Of Bodies of Elements (OBOE). This show explores Indigenous ecologies, origin stories, colonial histories, and contemporary realities through indigenous contemporary dance. Its wide scope demonstrates the relevance of Indigenous ideas and Cosmologies to contemporary issues. Its raw power and critical acclaim attest to the vitality of indigenous performing artists and the DANCING EARTH circle.
OBOE was made possible by the National Dance Project’s Production and Touring award, and the Expressive Arts award from the National Museum of American Indian.

Item Special Note
Meet our Company:
DANCING EARTH spins, stomps and spirals into life on the world’s dancing grounds as a collective of intertribal Indigenous dance artists, under the leadership of internationally respected choreographer Rulan Tangen. Rooted in the spirit and energy of the first peoples and the land, the mythic power of DANCING EARTH‘s creations respect, embrace and expand the context of Indigenous culture into vital contemporary relevance.
Our upcoming project "Origi-Nation: Roots & Seeds" explores the theme of SEED as a metaphor for mentorship, the value of native plants and foods, and sovereign, sustainable agriculture.
Building upon a collaborative community-research-based process we've developed over the last several years, we will create the material for the show through workshops and cultural sharings in many Native communities across the US and Canada.
