Item Description
About Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home
His father was born in a log cabin and called from the humblest rank in life to preside over our nation during the most momentous period of its history. One generation later, Robert Todd Lincoln, the only child of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln to survive to adulthood, became Chairman of the Pullman Company, the largest manufacturing corporation at the turn of the 20th century. He built his Georgian Revival mansion in 1905 in the scenic village of Manchester. It became home to only Lincoln descendants until 1975, longer than any other Lincoln residence. It is the Great American Story.
We are a federally designated 501(c)(3).
Item Special Note
Hildene is open year-round. Guests can tour the gardens and mansions (where the Lincoln family lived for 70 years), take in our special exhibits, visit our farm (Nubian goats and cheese-making facility), and hike/ski/snowshoe miles of trails that wander throughout the estate's 412 acres. Visitors will also want to tour Sunbeam, a meticulously restored 1903 Pullman car - the finest wooden Pullman car on public display. In June of this year, we will also be opening our 600 foot floating boardwalk which traverses buffer wetlands along the famous Batten Kill River.
