Item Description
One of the most common and easy to take care of varieties of houseplants is the spider plant. Aptly named for its appearance of multiple branches stemming from a center "body" this plant is a beautiful and worthwhile addition to any households decor or indoor garden.
Spider plants are good houseplants for beginners. They are tolerant of low light conditions and some neglect. Keeping a spider plant green and healthy is an easy task that requires little time and effort. Although this popular houseplant grows in less than optimal environments, it still needs a little care to thrive.
Choose a space that is large enough to display your plant to its fullest beauty. Choose a spot where it won't be tipped over by small children or pets. If you can hang the plant, it drapes beautifully. The plant also looks attractive sitting on a small, high table.
Locate the plant where it receives some sunlight -- bright, indirect light is ideal. If you choose to put the plant outside during warm weather, position it is a protected area. Summer sun can scorch the leaves. Bring the plant inside when temperatures fall below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
Use plenty of good, lightweight potting soil. Water the plant daily. Its container should provide excellent drainage.
