Item Description
John Rabe, host of KPCC's award-winning program Off-Ramp, expresses his joint fascination with Los Angeles and mobile photography through this limited edition archival print, Dodger Cop.
"I'm making pictures of things we take for granted, showing you why we shouldn't," states Rabe. "And I'm not using some fancy camera, like Gary Leonard or Nick Ut. It’s just an old iPhone and a few apps.”
But Rabe’s works are much more. Along with documenting everyday events, his pictures are about how we document ourselves today.
“Everybody is photographing everything,” Rabe continues. “Even Jonathan Gold takes photos of his food. So stop complaining about it. Embrace it.”
And what we as spectators get to embrace is an honest Los Angeles experience.
John S. Rabe (b. 1966, Detroit, Michigan) earned his BA from Michigan State University in 1988 (He fondly enjoys pointing out how he was rightly rejected by Harvard.) He lives and works in Los Angeles. You can listen to John on 89.3 KPCC Saturdays Noon to 1:00 p.m. and Sundays 6:00 - 7:00 pm.
