Item Special Note

Faster than a speeding “We love you!” tweet...More powerful than a very rare disease...Able to leap a tall order of medical tests in a single bound. It’s SuperMase!

SuperMase, or Mason Morash as he’s known to us mere mortals, is an energetic seven-year-old boy who enjoys all the normal things. Going to school. Playing with his friends. Hanging out with his mom Corinne, who works at Mission Federal Credit Union, dad David, and three-year-old brother Ethan.

And then one day, normal went away.

On December 16, 2013, Mason and his family received the diagnosis that Mason has a very rare condition called Aplastic Anemia. His bone marrow is not working properly, which means that he lives with an extremely low number of the red blood cells which carry oxygen, the white blood cells which fight infection, and platelets which help the blood clot during injuries. His immune system is destroying its own cells and he needs to find a compatible donor for a bone marrow transplant.

And thus began the adventures of SuperMase! Not only are Mason’s quick smile, sense of humor and “what’s next?” approach super strong; he also gets super support from his family, friends, and all of his caregivers at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

It hasn’t been easy for Mason—or his family. Some days, he would just like to take off the SuperMase cape and go back to normal life. One of those days was when the family found out that younger brother Ethan was not Mason’s bone marrow match. And as they began alternative treatment for Mason, they started the search for another donor—a search which continues.

What have SuperMase and his family learned so far from this adventure? The need to balance looking forward with taking it one day at a time. The importance of outstanding medical treatment and the caring hearts of those who provide it. The amazing impact of Children’s Miracle Network and their dedicated supporters. The power of love and generosity from family, friends and people who don’t even know SuperMase--but hear his story and want to help.

If you’re one of these people, you can learn more about registering to see if you’re a bone marrow match at bethematch.org. And you can follow the Adventures of SuperMase, and join all those who care about him, at supermase.com.

Thank you!
