Statement

I was born in Chile (Linares) and grew up in Santiago, where I studied painting for three years at Carmen Piemonte,s Academy. I also studied and graduated with a two year degree in Graphic Design at INACAP. This influenced some of my initial paintings and continues to inform some of my work.

I have studied and painted independently for twenty-seven years. My work has gone through various stages over the years and has been informed by movement such as surrealism, constructivism and abstract expressionism.

I think art can be found in every day life. I try to rescue objects, images and patterns that are right in front of us but invisible because they are too close or common. I may capture a pattern found in a bowl of noodles, the layers of paint on the side of a building, or the textures of paint running down or smudged across the canvas. I look for an element of chance and attempt to create balance among these unrelated pieces. I create my compositions through layers of recognizable images, forms and textures accented by wide color palette.
