Item Description

Following the tremendous success of the Christmas Party at Bayview Mission in December, don’t miss this fun new opportunity for eighth graders!  For many boys, their first experience with adopting Bayview Mission was in 2nd grade, 6 years ago, as part of CSB’s “Bags for Bayview". This is a new community service opportunity for up to 30 eighth graders to provide practical help to Rev. Nina Pickerrell, Vicar of Bayview Mission, and her team, as well as support CSB’s auction.

Bayview Mission is an outreach program supporting the Bayview-Hunter’s Point community in San Francisco. Founded in 2004 by the Rev. Nina Pickerell of Grace Cathedral, Bayview Mission extends a variety of resources to the neighborhood, including a critically needed food pantry distributing grocery items to local families, summer camp for kids, and other services.

On Saturday May 3 from 9 AM to 12 PM, join a group of eighth grade friends at Bayview Mission which is housed on a residential block in a Victorian home at 1547 Jerrold Avenue in San Francisco. Roll up your sleeves and spruce up Bayview Mission! In teams of 4 - 5 boys, tasks will include gardening of the 12 raised vegetable beds, organizing craft containers, working in the barn, re-bagging rice and beans, filling senior and transitional supply bags for distribution the following Monday, cutting construction paper and other projects for summer camp for kids, stamping books for the library, etc.

Item Special Note

Open to CSB eighth grade boys. May 3rd from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Closed-toed shoes required. Long pants and a hat recommended. All tools, supplies, snacks, and water will be provided. Drop off is Bayview Mission at 1547 Jerrold Avenue in San Francisco. Parents are welcome to stay if they would like – there are plenty of jobs for adults too! Boys must stay in Bayview Mission house/compound during their visit. Please provide Nina Pickerrell with any necessary information on food or other allergies (for example, there will not be a tour of the bee hives for any boys with bee allergies).
