Item Description
This year’s fund-a-need project focuses on raising funds to continue developing and maintaining our art program for all grade levels from Pre School through High School. From writing on papyrus, to creating cartouches, decorating sarcophagi, recreating cave paintings and designing ancient Egyptian jewelry the students of SLOCA are not only participating in a weekly art class, but are adding another layer to their knowledge of the historic subject matter they are learning in their core classes.
When visitors tour our campus they are greeted with a brief introduction to our classical program and course of study that each student undertakes. Not surprisingly they are impressed with the logic, Latin, history, math and literature that our students consume each day on campus. But it is the art classes they visit which cause them to salivate and yearn to have their own children participate in the program we know and love. It is during the moments when history and tales from the ancient world sort themselves into order and allow a budding artist the confident knowledge to pour into a painting, drawing or sculpture. When these moments are witnessed, SLOCA’s impact upon the world can be felt.
During a time in our collective educational history, art is losing its importance as a mandatory course of study for students throughout the country. This reality reinvigorates our desire to ensure that art remain a firmly held pillar at SLOCA and we invite you to participate right now along with everyone else here , to help underwrite this program for each and every one of our students. Please consider your giving level of comfort and be sure be recognized as you stake your claim upon the arts.
